Overview

This therapeutic intervention is a combination therapy developed by DEKA S.r.l. for the treatment of atrophic acne scars. It involves the use of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in conjunction with fractional carbon dioxide (CO2) and Erbium:Glass laser resurfacing. PRP is a patient-derived biologic product concentrated with platelets that release various growth factors, including platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). These factors are critical in the wound healing cascade, promoting fibroblast proliferation, collagen synthesis, and dermal remodeling. The fractional lasers (specifically the SmartXide system) create controlled micro-thermal zones of injury in the skin, which synergize with the regenerative properties of the injected or topically applied PRP to enhance tissue repair and reduce the appearance of deep atrophic scars.
