Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) supplemented with or acting as a concentrated source of growth factors is an autologous biologic therapy used in regenerative medicine, specifically for the treatment of female infertility. Developed and pioneered by IVI Alicante (part of IVI-RMA Global), the treatment involves the intraovarian injection of a concentrated solution of the patient's own platelets. Upon activation, these platelets release a potent cocktail of growth factors, including Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF), Transforming Growth Factor-beta (TGF-β), and Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF). These factors are hypothesized to stimulate the niche of dormant primordial follicles, promote angiogenesis, and reduce oxidative stress, thereby "rejuvenating" the ovarian environment in patients with diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) or premature ovarian insufficiency (POI). The therapy aims to restore ovarian function and improve the success rates of assisted reproductive technologies.
