Overview

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) prolotherapy is an autologous biologic therapy being investigated by Abdelrahman Soliman Alateyh at Cairo University for the treatment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) subluxation. The procedure involves drawing approximately 40 ml of the patient's blood, which is then mixed with citrate sodium as an anticoagulant and centrifuged to concentrate the platelets. This concentrated preparation is injected into the TMJ at two-week intervals. The therapy works by delivering a high concentration of growth factors and bioactive proteins directly to the joint, which promotes tissue healing, strengthens the joint capsule and ligaments, and regenerates the local environment to reduce pain and the frequency of joint luxation.
