Platinum nanocolloid consists of platinum particles reduced to the nanometer scale (typically around 2 nm) and dispersed in a liquid medium. It is recognized for its potent and unique catalytic antioxidant activity, which allows it to continuously scavenge various reactive oxygen species (ROS), including superoxide anions and hydroxyl radicals, without being consumed in the reaction. Research has demonstrated that platinum nanocolloids can protect cells from oxidative stress-induced damage, such as that caused by gamma irradiation, by inhibiting ROS-mediated apoptosis. While primarily marketed in Japan as a dietary supplement and an anti-aging cosmetic ingredient, it is also being investigated for potential therapeutic applications in mitigating radiation-induced injury and inflammatory conditions.
