Platycodonis radix polysaccharides (PRP) are bioactive compounds derived from the root of *Platycodon grandiflorus* (Balloon Flower). These polysaccharides, particularly the fraction designated as PG1, demonstrate significant anti-obesity effects by modulating the gut microbiota and metabolic pathways. The mechanism of action involves the activation of the gut microbiota-short-chain fatty acid (SCFA)-G protein-coupled receptor (GPR) pathway, specifically increasing the expression of GPR41 and GPR43, which leads to elevated levels of satiety hormones such as GLP-1 and PYY. Additionally, PRP inhibits the gut microbiota-bile acid (BA)-farnesoid X receptor (FXR)-fibroblast growth factor 15 (FGF15) signaling axis, resulting in the upregulation of hepatic CYP7A1 and accelerated liver cholesterol metabolism. These actions collectively suppress weight gain, improve lipid profiles, and reduce inflammation and liver damage in high-fat diet-induced obesity models.
