Plaunac

Plaunac is an oral antihypertensive medication containing **olmesartan medoxomil**, a prodrug that is rapidly hydrolyzed to its active metabolite, olmesartan, during absorption from the gastrointestinal tract. It belongs to the class of angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) and works by selectively and competitively antagonizing the binding of angiotensin II to the **angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor** in tissues such as vascular smooth muscle and the adrenal gland. This action inhibits the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II, leading to a reduction in systemic vascular resistance and blood pressure. Marketed in Italy by Laboratori Guidotti (Menarini Group), Plaunac is indicated for the treatment of essential arterial hypertension in adults, as well as in children and adolescents aged 6 to 18 years.
