Pleinvue

Pleinvue is a low-volume (1-liter) polyethylene glycol (PEG)-based osmotic laxative formulation containing ascorbate, developed by Norgine. It is indicated for bowel cleansing in adults prior to clinical procedures that require a clean bowel, such as colonoscopy. The preparation is administered in two doses: the first contains macrogol 3350, sodium sulfate, sodium chloride, and potassium chloride; the second contains macrogol 3350, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, and a high concentration of ascorbate (sodium ascorbate and ascorbic acid). The mechanism of action involves the osmotic effect of these components, which retain water in the intestinal lumen and induce watery diarrhea to clear fecal matter. As a 1-liter preparation, it provides a lower-volume alternative to traditional 2-liter or 4-liter PEG regimens, aimed at improving patient compliance and tolerability. Parc de Salut Mar has conducted Phase 4 clinical trials evaluating its efficacy in achieving high-quality colon cleansing compared to other low-volume laxatives.
