Overview

Plenity is an oral, non-systemic weight management aid composed of superabsorbent hydrogel particles made from cross-linked cellulose and citric acid. Administered as capsules, the product disintegrates in the stomach to release thousands of particles that hydrate up to 100 times their original weight, forming a three-dimensional matrix that occupies approximately 25% of the average stomach volume. This mechanical expansion increases gastric volume and viscosity, promoting a sensation of fullness and satiety to help patients manage their weight. Plenity is not absorbed by the body and is eliminated through normal bowel movements. It was cleared by the FDA as a Class II medical device and is indicated for overweight and obese adults with a BMI of 25–40 kg/m2 when used in conjunction with diet and exercise.
