Overview

PLGA-ORM is a polymeric nanoformulation consisting of the non-steroidal selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) ormeloxifene (ORM) encapsulated within poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles. Developed by researchers at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and Sanford Research, this formulation is designed to enhance the therapeutic efficacy of ormeloxifene for cervical cancer. The PLGA matrix provides a biodegradable delivery system that improves cellular uptake via endocytosis and increases the anti-proliferative and anti-clonogenic potential of the drug. In preclinical orthotopic mouse models of cervical cancer, PLGA-ORM demonstrated superior anti-tumor activity compared to free ormeloxifene.
