PLM-401 is a preclinical small molecule drug candidate developed by Pelemed for the treatment of chronic Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) infection. It is designed with a dual mechanism of action, functioning as both a Class 1 Capsid Assembly Modulator (CAM) and an inhibitor of the Sodium/taurocholate cotransporting polypeptide (NTCP). As a Class 1 CAM, PLM-401 modulates the assembly of the HBV nucleocapsid, typically leading to the formation of aberrant, non-functional viral structures rather than normal capsids. Simultaneously, its activity against NTCP, the primary receptor for HBV entry into hepatocytes, aims to block the initiation of new infections. This combined approach is intended to significantly reduce viral replication and the spread of the virus within the liver, offering a potentially potent therapeutic strategy for chronic HBV.
