Overview

PLP91-110 is a synthetic research peptide derived from the myelin proteolipid protein (PLP), specifically spanning residues 91 to 110 (sequence: YTTGAVRQIFGDYKTTICGK). It is primarily utilized as a preclinical research tool to induce experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), a standard animal model for multiple sclerosis (MS), particularly in HLA-DR3 transgenic mice. The peptide acts as an encephalitogenic epitope that binds to HLA-DR3 molecules, triggering a T cell-mediated autoimmune response against the central nervous system. While it is not a commercial therapeutic, research into its minimal encephalitogenic epitope has been explored as a basis for potential peptide-based immunotherapies for MS.
