Plumbum metallicum is a homeopathic preparation derived from metallic lead, specifically investigated by the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP) for the treatment of occupational lead poisoning, also known as saturnism. The preparation is produced through the homeopathic process of potentization, involving serial dilution and succussion to reach a 15cH (centesimal Hahnemannian) dilution. The therapeutic approach is based on the homeopathic principle of 'similia similibus curentur' (like cures like), positing that a substance that causes symptoms in high doses can treat similar symptoms when administered in highly diluted forms. A Phase 4 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial (NCT00931905) was conducted in Brazil to evaluate its efficacy in reducing blood lead levels in exposed workers; however, the study concluded that the preparation was not significantly more effective than a placebo.
