Overview

Plureon stem cells, scientifically known as Marrow-Isolated Adult Multilineage Inducible (MIAMI) cells, are a unique population of human multipotent adult stem cells derived from the bone marrow stroma. These cells are characterized by their ability to express markers of pluripotency, such as Oct4, Rex1, and Nanog, and their capacity to differentiate into functional cells from all three embryonic germ layers (ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm) under specific inductive conditions. Developed by the biotechnology company Plureon, Inc., these cells were primarily investigated for regenerative medicine applications, including the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders like Parkinson's disease and the repair of musculoskeletal tissues such as bone and cartilage. Their therapeutic mechanism involves both direct cell replacement through site-specific differentiation and the secretion of paracrine factors that promote tissue survival and endogenous repair.
