Overview

PluriCell is an investigational regenerative cell therapy consisting of cardiomyocytes derived from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). Developed by the Brazilian biotechnology company PluriCell Biotech, the therapy is designed to treat chronic heart failure by addressing the underlying loss of functional cardiac muscle tissue. The mechanism of action involves the intramyocardial transplantation of lab-grown, functional cardiomyocytes into the damaged or infarcted areas of the heart. These cells are intended to integrate into the host myocardium, establish electromechanical coupling, and contribute to the heart's contractile force, thereby improving cardiac output and overall heart function. This approach represents a significant advancement in cell therapy, moving beyond paracrine signaling to direct tissue replacement using pluripotent stem cell technology.
