Overview

PLX-PAD is an allogeneic, placenta-derived, mesenchymal-like stromal cell therapy developed by Pluri (formerly Pluristem Therapeutics). The cells are expanded using a proprietary 3D bioreactor system that mimics the human physiological environment. PLX-PAD operates through a paracrine mechanism, secreting a cocktail of therapeutic proteins—including pro-angiogenic and anti-inflammatory cytokines—in response to tissue damage or ischemia. This secretome promotes blood vessel formation (angiogenesis), modulates the immune response, and facilitates tissue repair. The therapy is being evaluated for several indications, most notably critical limb ischemia (CLI), where it has reached Phase III development, as well as intermittent claudication, knee osteoarthritis, and steroid-refractory chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD).
