Overview

PLX-RAD is an investigational, placenta-derived adherent stromal cell therapy developed on Pluristem’s proprietary three-dimensional cell expansion platform, originally advanced as a prototype to the later product PLX-R18 for hematologic and radiation-related indications. Derived from placental cells and administered intramuscularly, PLX-RAD cells act primarily via a paracrine mechanism, secreting a spectrum of hematopoietic and tissue-regenerative cytokines and growth factors in response to stress signals from damaged bone marrow, thereby promoting hematopoietic recovery and survival after insults such as high-dose ionizing radiation or bone marrow failure.[1][8][14] Preclinical studies showed that PLX-RAD improved survival, mitigated radiation-induced lethality, and enhanced recovery of bone marrow and peripheral blood cellularity in murine models of acute radiation syndrome, supporting its development for enhancement of engraftment and regeneration following hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and as a medical countermeasure for radiation exposure.[1][8][14]
