PLZ4-Alexa 488 is a diagnostic imaging agent consisting of the cyclic peptide PLZ4 conjugated to the fluorescent dye Alexa Fluor 488. PLZ4 was discovered through "one bead one compound" (OBOC) combinatorial library screening and exhibits high specificity for bladder urothelial carcinoma cells in both human and canine models. The Alexa 488 conjugate is primarily used for the detection of cancer cells in urine samples and for fluorescence-based imaging of bladder tumor sections. Research indicates that PLZ4 maintains its binding affinity in the presence of urine, making it a potential tool for non-invasive bladder cancer diagnosis and targeted delivery of other agents.
