Overview

PLZ4-DiD nanomicelles are an experimental, research-stage nanoparticle drug delivery system designed for the targeted imaging and potential therapy of bladder cancer. Developed by researchers at the University of California, Davis, these nanomicelles are constructed from telodendrimer monomers consisting of polyethylene glycol (PEG) conjugated with a cholic acid cluster and the bladder cancer-specific targeting peptide PLZ4. They self-assemble into micelles approximately 23 nm in diameter. The core is loaded with the near-infrared fluorescent dye DiD (1,1'-dioctadecyl-3,3,3',3'-tetramethylindodicarbocyanine perchlorate) as an imaging agent. The PLZ4 peptide on the surface acts as a ligand that selectively binds to human and canine bladder cancer cells, facilitating high-contrast imaging and potentially the targeted delivery of chemotherapeutic agents such as paclitaxel or daunorubicin.
