Overview

PM-012 is a botanical drug candidate developed by the South Korean company Mediforum for the treatment of dementia and Alzheimer's disease. It is a standardized multi-component extract based on the traditional Korean herbal formula Yukmi-jihwang-tang, which comprises six medicinal herbs: *Rehmannia glutinosa*, *Cornus officinalis*, *Dioscorea batatas*, *Alisma orientale*, *Poria cocos*, and *Paeonia suffruticosa*. The therapeutic mechanism of PM-012 involves neuroprotection, inhibition of amyloid-beta aggregation, and enhancement of cognitive function. Mediforum initiated Phase 3 clinical trials in South Korea in 2019, positioning the drug as a potential alternative or adjunct to existing synthetic acetylcholinesterase inhibitors with a focus on a lower side-effect profile.
