Overview

PMC-902 is an aflibercept biosimilar candidate developed by PharmAbcine. It is a recombinant fusion protein designed to act as a soluble decoy receptor, often referred to as a 'VEGF Trap.' PMC-902 consists of the extracellular domains of human vascular endothelial growth factor receptors 1 and 2 (VEGFR-1 and VEGFR-2) fused to the Fc portion of human IgG1. The drug binds with high affinity to vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A), VEGF-B, and placental growth factor (PlGF), thereby preventing these ligands from interacting with their cognate receptors. This inhibition suppresses pathological angiogenesis and reduces vascular permeability, which are key drivers of neovascular eye diseases such as wet age-related macular degeneration (wAMD). PharmAbcine has optimized the production of PMC-902 using a high-productivity cell line achieving yields greater than 3g/L.
