Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PMI-001 is a plant-derived, orally bioavailable, small-molecule disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug (DMARD) developed by Phytomedics. It is an extract from the roots of an undisclosed perennial shrub and acts as a multi-component agent. The mechanism of action involves interference with the production of interleukin-2 (IL-2) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), as well as inhibition of IL-1β, inducible nitric oxide synthase (NOS2), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α). These actions are intended to modulate immune responses and inflammation for the potential treatment of autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus erythematosus, and psoriasis.
