Overview

PMIS-miR-200a is a plasmid-based microRNA inhibitor system (PMIS) designed to target and sequester microRNA-200a (miR-200a). Developed by Gustavo Avila-Ortiz and colleagues, this gene therapy approach is intended to promote osteogenesis and modulate local inflammatory responses in the context of alveolar ridge resorption following tooth extraction. The plasmid is delivered locally within a biodegradable type I bovine collagen sponge placed into the extraction socket. By inhibiting miR-200a, the therapy aims to enhance the expression of osteogenic factors and improve bone healing outcomes.
