PNA-A15 is an experimental peptide nucleic acid (PNA) oligonucleotide designed to target and disrupt the transcriptional control of long mononucleotide A-T repeats in the genome. These A-T repeats function as cis-regulatory elements that drive the expression of various genes involved in cancer progression and the maintenance of cancer stem cell (CSC) phenotypes. By binding to these sequences, PNA-A15 dysregulates the oncogenic transcriptional program, particularly in lung cancer. Research suggests it may be particularly effective against lung cancer stem cells and could potentially be used in combination with standard chemotherapy to improve treatment outcomes by targeting the resistant CSC population.
