Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pneumo 14 is a 14-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV-14) designed to provide active immunization against infections caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae. It contains purified capsular polysaccharides from 14 different serotypes of S. pneumoniae, each conjugated to a carrier protein to enhance immunogenicity. The vaccine is indicated for the prevention of invasive pneumococcal diseases such as pneumonia, meningitis, and bacteremia in children over six weeks of age. By combining bacterial polysaccharides with a protein carrier, the immune response is improved compared to non-conjugated polysaccharide vaccines[6]. This approach helps protect against severe diseases caused by multiple strains of S. pneumoniae.
