pneumococcal 10-valent conjugate vaccine

Pneumococcal vaccine (10-valent) is a conjugate vaccine designed to provide active immunization against invasive disease, pneumonia, and acute otitis media caused by *Streptococcus pneumoniae*. The most prominent version, Synflorix (developed by GSK), contains capsular polysaccharides from 10 specific serotypes (1, 4, 5, 6B, 7F, 9V, 14, 18C, 19F, and 23F), each conjugated to a carrier protein such as non-typeable *Haemophilus influenzae* Protein D, tetanus toxoid, or diphtheria toxoid. By conjugating the polysaccharides to proteins, the vaccine induces a T-cell dependent immune response, which is effective in infants and young children. It is typically administered as a multi-dose series in the first two years of life. Another 10-valent vaccine, Pneumosil (developed by the Serum Institute of India), targets a slightly different set of serotypes (1, 5, 6A, 6B, 7F, 9V, 14, 19A, 19F, and 23F).
