Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PCV13 vaccine, specifically the 13-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide conjugate vaccine developed by CanSino Biologics (often designated as PCV13i), is a conjugate vaccine indicated for the prevention of invasive pneumococcal disease caused by *Streptococcus pneumoniae*. It targets 13 common serotypes: 1, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 6B, 7F, 9V, 14, 18C, 19A, 19F, and 23F. The vaccine works by conjugating these bacterial capsular polysaccharides to a carrier protein, CRM197, which enhances the immune response by engaging T-cells, making it effective in infants and young children. CanSino's formulation was designed to optimize the manufacturing process and improve the stability and immunogenicity of the vaccine. It received marketing approval from the China National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in April 2024 for use in infants and children.
