Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pneumovax 13 is an incorrect name or misnomer that conflates Merck's 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (Pneumovax 23) and Pfizer's 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (Prevnar 13), or refers to PneumoConj 13, a 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine developed by NIVAD Pharmed Salamat. PneumoConj 13 consists of pneumococcal capsular polysaccharides from 13 Streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes (1, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 6B, 7F, 9V, 14, 18C, 19A, 19F, and 23F) individually conjugated to a non-toxic diphtheria toxin mutant carrier protein (CRM197). It is designed to active immune responses for the prevention of invasive pneumococcal diseases, such as pneumonia, meningitis, and bacteremia, particularly in infants and children.
