Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pneumococcal 13-valent conjugate vaccine (PCV13) is a sterile suspension of saccharides from the capsular antigens of 13 *Streptococcus pneumoniae* serotypes (1, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 6B, 7F, 9V, 14, 18C, 19A, 19F, and 23F) individually conjugated to a non-toxic diphtheria toxin CRM197 carrier protein. Developed primarily by Pfizer and marketed as Prevnar 13, it is designed to provide broad protection against invasive pneumococcal disease, pneumonia, and acute otitis media by inducing a T-cell dependent immune response. In the context of clinical research conducted by Sanofi Pasteur, PCV13 is utilized as a concomitant routine pediatric vaccine in trials evaluating the safety and immunogenicity of investigational candidates, such as the pentavalent meningococcal ABCYW vaccine (MenPenta), to ensure that co-administration does not adversely affect the immune response to either product.
