Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shandong Kunli Biopharmaceutical's 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) is a prophylactic biologic designed to prevent invasive diseases and pneumonia caused by 13 specific serotypes of *Streptococcus pneumoniae* (1, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 6B, 7F, 9V, 14, 18C, 19A, 19F, and 23F). The vaccine utilizes a conjugation technology where purified capsular polysaccharides from each serotype are chemically linked to a carrier protein, typically CRM197. This conjugation converts the T-cell independent polysaccharide antigens into T-cell dependent antigens, which significantly enhances immunogenicity and induces long-term immunological memory, particularly in infants and young children. The vaccine is currently in Phase 2 clinical development in China.
