Overview

A vaccine component consisting of *Streptococcus pneumoniae* serotype 6A capsular polysaccharide chemically conjugated to the carrier protein CRM197 (a non-toxic mutant of diphtheria toxin). This conjugate antigen is included in several pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs) including PCV15, PCV20, and PCV21. The conjugation to CRM197 enhances immunogenicity by converting the T-independent polysaccharide antigen into a T-dependent antigen, making it more effective in young children. This specific serotype (6A) is structurally similar to serotype 6B but with one difference in the rhamnose-ribitol linkage.
