Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Synflorix** is GSK's marketed 10-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide conjugate vaccine. It contains capsular polysaccharides from *Streptococcus pneumoniae* serotypes 1, 4, 5, 6B, 7F, 9V, 14, 18C, 19F, and 23F, conjugated to carrier proteins and adsorbed to aluminium phosphate. The vaccine induces serotype-specific anti-capsular antibodies, including opsonophagocytic antibodies, to prevent invasive pneumococcal disease, pneumococcal pneumonia, and acute otitis media in infants and young children. It is supplied as an intramuscular suspension for injection and is used in age-appropriate primary-series and booster schedules.
