Pneumococcal polysaccharide serotype 15B-CRM197 conjugate adsorbed on aluminium phosphate is a monovalent conjugate vaccine candidate developed by the Rijksinstituut voor Volksgezondheid en Milieu (RIVM). It consists of the capsular polysaccharide of Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 15B covalently conjugated to CRM197, a non-toxic mutant of the diphtheria toxin that serves as a carrier protein. This conjugation converts the polysaccharide into a T-cell dependent antigen, which is essential for inducing an effective immune response and immunological memory, particularly in infants and young children. The vaccine is adsorbed onto aluminium phosphate, which acts as an adjuvant to enhance the magnitude and duration of the immune response. It is primarily intended for the prevention of invasive pneumococcal disease and pneumonia caused by serotype 15B, a serotype that has shown increased prevalence in some regions following the implementation of existing lower-valency conjugate vaccines.
