Pneumococcal polysaccharide serotype 4 refers to the specific capsular carbohydrate antigen derived from *Streptococcus pneumoniae* serotype 4. In the context of development at Erasmus Universitair Medisch Centrum Rotterdam (Erasmus MC), research has focused on the chemical synthesis of well-defined oligosaccharides that mimic the natural polysaccharide structure.
