Overview
The pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine developed by Shenzhen Mellow Hope Pharm Industrial (Minhai Biotechnology) is a 23-valent vaccine (PPV23) designed for active immunization against invasive pneumococcal disease. It contains purified capsular polysaccharides from 23 of the most prevalent serotypes of *Streptococcus pneumoniae*, which are responsible for the majority of serious pneumococcal infections. The vaccine works by stimulating a T-cell independent immune response, leading to the production of serotype-specific antibodies that enhance the opsonization and phagocytic killing of the bacteria. It is primarily indicated for adults aged 50 and older, as well as individuals over 2 years of age who are at increased risk for pneumococcal infection due to underlying medical conditions.
