Overview

PPrV is an investigational trivalent recombinant protein subunit vaccine designed to provide serotype-independent protection against *Streptococcus pneumoniae* infections. Developed by the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B) in collaboration with Johns Hopkins University, the vaccine contains three conserved pneumococcal protein antigens: pneumococcal choline-binding protein A (PcpA), pneumococcal histidine triad protein D (PhtD), and a pneumolysin derivative (PlyD1). Unlike traditional polysaccharide or conjugate vaccines that target specific capsular serotypes, PPrV targets proteins common across various strains, potentially offering broader coverage. It is formulated with an aluminum hydroxide adjuvant and administered via intramuscular injection.
