Pneumophage

Pneumophage is a bacteriophage-based therapeutic program developed by Pherecydes Pharma (now Phaxiam Therapeutics) for the treatment of respiratory tract infections caused by the bacterium *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*. [7, 6] Phage therapy utilizes natural bacteria-killing viruses (phages) to specifically target and destroy pathogenic bacteria, offering an innovative approach to combat antibiotic-resistant infections. [2, 9] The program was part of a preclinical push to address ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), with studies showing a significant reduction in bacterial load in animal models. [2, 9] However, its development appears to have been discontinued. [5]
