NurExone Biologic is developing a small interfering RNA (siRNA) therapy designed to target the perineuronal net (PNN) for the treatment of facial nerve injury. The PNN is a specialized extracellular matrix that stabilizes synapses but also restricts neural plasticity and regeneration after trauma. By utilizing siRNA to knockdown key components of the PNN, such as chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans (CSPGs), the treatment aims to dismantle these inhibitory structures and facilitate axonal regrowth and functional repair. This program leverages NurExone's proprietary ExoTherapy platform, which uses modified exosomes to deliver molecular cargoes directly to damaged nerve tissues.
