Overview

Poa annua pollen is a biological extract derived from the pollen of the *Poa annua* plant, also known as annual bluegrass. [1] It is used as an allergenic extract for both the diagnosis and treatment of allergies to this common grass pollen. For diagnostic purposes, it is applied via skin prick (percutaneous) or intradermal tests to identify sensitization by eliciting a localized IgE-mediated allergic reaction (wheal and flare). [1, 3, 5] For therapeutic use, it serves as the active ingredient in allergen immunotherapy (allergy shots or sublingual tablets), where gradually increasing doses are administered to desensitize the immune system and reduce allergic symptoms over time.
