Poa pratensis pollen depigmented polymerized extract is an allergen immunotherapy (AIT) developed by LETI Pharma for the treatment of allergic rhinoconjunctivitis and allergic asthma triggered by Kentucky Blue Grass pollen. The extract undergoes a specialized manufacturing process where pigments and certain non-allergenic proteins are removed (depigmentation) to enhance purity and reduce non-specific irritation. The allergens are subsequently polymerized using glutaraldehyde to create "allergoids." This polymerization significantly reduces the extract's IgE-binding capacity, thereby lowering the risk of systemic allergic reactions, while preserving its immunogenicity and ability to stimulate T-cell responses. This profile allows for an accelerated updosing schedule compared to conventional native extracts. The treatment works by shifting the immune system from a Th2-mediated allergic response toward a regulatory T-cell and Th1-mediated response, characterized by the induction of blocking antibodies such as IgG4 and anti-inflammatory cytokines like IL-10.
