pobilukast

Pobilukast (SK&F 104353) is a potent and selective antagonist of the leukotriene D4 receptor. It is a synthetic structural analog of leukotrienes D4 and E4 (LTD4, LTE4), designed to inhibit the action of cysteinyl leukotrienes in airway smooth muscle. Pobilukast binds with high affinity to LTD4 receptors in both human and guinea pig lung tissue and competitively inhibits LTD4-induced bronchoconstriction as well as related intracellular signaling events such as phosphatidylinositol hydrolysis and thromboxane B2 synthesis. The drug was developed primarily for research into asthma pathophysiology and potential therapeutic use in leukotriene-mediated diseases such as asthma—including aspirin-induced asthma—by blocking the effects of cysteinyl leukotrienes on airway constriction[1][6][8].
