podofilox

Podofilox is a small molecule antimitotic drug used topically for the treatment of external genital and perianal warts (condyloma acuminatum). It is a purified form of podophyllotoxin, a lignan derived from the roots of Podophyllum species or synthesized chemically. Podofilox acts primarily by binding to tubulin, destabilizing microtubules, and thereby inhibiting cell division in wart tissue. This leads to cell death and removal of wart tissue. Some evidence also suggests it may modulate DNA topoisomerase II activity, but its main action is as a microtubule inhibitor. Podofilox is not curative for HPV infection but removes visible warts on external genital skin[1][3][5][7][8].
