polaprezinc

Polaprezinc is an orally bioavailable chelate composed of zinc and L-carnosine, primarily used as a gastric mucosal protective agent. It is approved in Japan for the treatment and prevention of gastric ulcers and gastritis. Polaprezinc exerts cytoprotective, antioxidant, anti-ulcer, and anti-inflammatory effects by increasing the expression of antioxidant enzymes (such as SOD-1/2, HO-1), inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines (including TNF-alpha and IL-6), upregulating growth factors (PDGF-B, VEGF, NGF), and stimulating heat shock proteins (HSP90/70/60/47/27/10). Its mechanism includes scavenging reactive oxygen species in the gastric mucosa to protect cells from oxidative damage while promoting tissue repair. Polaprezinc also inhibits nuclear factor-kappaB activity to reduce inflammation and has demonstrated efficacy in improving healing rates for peptic ulcers as well as potential benefits for oral mucositis associated with cancer therapy[1][2][3][4][5][6].
