Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Poliart is an intra-articular injectable co-formulation consisting of highly purified, natural-origin polynucleotides (PN-HPT™) and hyaluronic acid (HA). Developed by the Italian company Mastelli, it is primarily indicated for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis and other degenerative joint diseases. The product utilizes a dual-action approach: hyaluronic acid provides immediate viscosupplementation by restoring the lubricating and shock-absorbing properties of the synovial fluid, while the polynucleotides exert a trophic effect on chondrocytes and fibroblasts. Polynucleotides are thought to act as precursors for DNA synthesis and as agonists for adenosine A2A receptors, promoting tissue repair and reducing inflammation. Clinical data suggests that this combination is more effective than hyaluronic acid alone in improving joint function and reducing pain over long-term follow-up periods.
