Polilaminina (Polylaminin) is an experimental biologic therapy developed by Cristália in partnership with the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) for the treatment of acute spinal cord injuries. The active ingredient is a stabilized polymeric form of laminin, an extracellular matrix protein extracted and produced from human placentas. Polilaminina acts as a biomimetic scaffold that promotes neuroprotection and stimulates axonal regeneration and the formation of new nerve pathways at the site of injury. It is administered as a single intraspinal injection directly into the damaged spinal cord area, ideally within 72 hours of the trauma. The drug received approval from Brazil's ANVISA in early 2026 to begin Phase 1 clinical trials in volunteers with complete acute thoracic spinal cord injuries.
