Overview
Polimmune is a veterinary immunostimulant and antiviral agent primarily composed of polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid (Poly I:C). It functions as a synthetic analog of double-stranded RNA (dsRNA), acting as a potent agonist of Toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3) and other pattern recognition receptors such as MDA5. By mimicking a viral infection, Polimmune induces the production of Type I interferons (IFN-alpha and IFN-beta) and activates various components of the innate and adaptive immune systems, including natural killer (NK) cells and macrophages. It is used in veterinary medicine to enhance the immune response to vaccines and to assist in the treatment of viral diseases in livestock and companion animals. The drug is particularly established in the South American veterinary market for species including cattle, horses, and dogs.
