The polio vaccine candidate by Institut Pasteur Dakar (IPD) is a biologic currently in preclinical development, designed to induce protective immunity against poliovirus to prevent poliomyelitis. This vaccine is a core component of the long-term manufacturing vision for the MADIBA (Manufacturing in Africa for Disease Immunization and Building Autonomy) facility located in Diamniadio, Senegal. The project aims to establish local vaccine production capacity to enhance vaccine sovereignty across the African continent and reduce dependence on imported biological products. As part of the MADIBA facility's expanded portfolio, the vaccine is intended to be manufactured at scale alongside other essential immunizations such as those for measles, rubella, and yellow fever.
