Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Poliomyelitis vaccine (Vero cells), inactivated, Sabin strain (sIPV) is a trivalent inactivated viral vaccine developed by BioKangtai (through its subsidiary Beijing Minhai Biotechnology) for the active immunization and prevention of poliomyelitis in infants and toddlers. The vaccine is produced by cultivating attenuated Sabin strains of poliovirus (types 1, 2, and 3) in Vero cells, followed by purification and formaldehyde inactivation. Compared to traditional Salk-strain inactivated polio vaccines (wIPV) which utilize wild-type polioviruses, sIPV offers enhanced biosafety during manufacturing and is more cost-effective. The vaccine was approved for marketing in China in September 2025.
