Overview

Poliovirus type 1 antigen (formaldehyde inactivated) is a purified and formaldehyde-inactivated suspension of the Mahoney strain of poliovirus Type 1. It is used as part of the trivalent or monovalent Inactivated Poliovirus Vaccine (IPV) for active immunization against paralytic disease caused by wild-type and vaccine-derived strains of Poliovirus Type 1. The mechanism of action involves induction of neutralizing antibodies that confer protective immunity against infection with live virus. The primary indication is prevention of poliomyelitis, and it is administered to infants, children, and adults as part of routine immunization schedules[2][4][7]. The product has been developed using continuous lines or primary cultures from monkey kidney cells[7].
