Overview

PoliVal-ICP is a liquid polyvalent antivenom developed and manufactured by the **Instituto Clodomiro Picado (ICP)** of the University of Costa Rica. It is a hyperimmune equine serum containing purified polyclonal antibodies (IgG) designed to neutralize the toxins found in the venom of Central and South American vipers, specifically from the genera *Bothrops*, *Crotalus*, and *Lachesis*. The antivenom is indicated for the treatment of snakebite envenomation (ophidism) and is approved for use in several countries in the region. It works by binding to venom components such as metalloproteinases and phospholipases A2, preventing them from interacting with their physiological targets and causing systemic or local damage.
