Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PoliVet-ICP is an equine-derived polyvalent antivenom developed and manufactured by the Instituto Clodomiro Picado of the University of Costa Rica. It is specifically formulated for veterinary use to treat snakebite envenomation in animals (such as cattle, dogs, and other livestock or pets) caused by the bites of Central American vipers (family Viperidae). The antivenom consists of purified equine immunoglobulins (IgG) obtained from the plasma of horses immunized with the venoms of *Bothrops asper* (terciopelo) and *Crotalus simus* (Central American rattlesnake). It works by binding to and neutralizing the systemic toxins present in these venoms, thereby preventing or reversing local tissue damage, hemorrhage, and coagulopathy.
